Malaysia My Second Home



 

 

 

The Malaysian government welcomes foreign citizens from all over the world* to enter and stay in Malaysia on a long stay Social Visit Pass (duration of ten years with Multiple Entry Visa) under the “Malaysia My Second Home Programme” (MMSH).

 

This programme, however, does not promise a permanent resident status. Foreigners under this programme are allowed to purchase up to two residential properties costing RM150, 000 each without getting approval from Foreign Investments Committee (F.I.C.).

 

Benefits

Social Visit Pass for ten years and extension for another ten years.
Further extension is subject to continued fulfillment of programme conditions.

 

Car Ownership

Foreigners participating in MMSH programme can bring in their cars, free of import duty, excise duty and sales tax.

 

Application to import the vehicle must be done within six months from the date the visa application is endorsed.

 

Alternatively, they can buy a new car in Malaysia without paying excise duty and sales tax. Applications to purchase a new vehicle must be submitted within a year of visa being endorsed. Approval for tax/duty exemption must be obtained from the Treasury before purchasing the new vehicle.

 

Applicants must be the owners of the vehicle and this should be shown in the car registration document prior to obtaining the visa.

 

The vehicle purchased/imported under this scheme must be for personal use only.

 

Who Are Eligible To Apply?

 

It is open to all citizens of countries recognized by Malaysia regardless of race, religion, gender or age who fulfill the financial requirements.

 

Financial Requirements as at 15 May 2006
 

Applicant below 50 years old

 

Open a fixed deposit account of RM300, 000.00.

 

After a period of one year, the participant can withdraw up to RM240, 000.00 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes.

 

Applicant 50 years old and above

 

Can either choose to: -

 

Open a fixed deposit account of RM150, 000.00;

 

After a period of one year, participant who fulfils the fixed deposit criteria can withdraw up to RM90, 000.00 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes.

 

OR

 

Show proof of monthly off-shore income of RM10, 000.00 such as pension scheme.

 

Other Requirements

 

Applicants are allowed to bring along their spouse and children (below 18 years old who is not married).

 

Participant who opens fixed deposit must maintain a minimum balance of RM60, 000.00 from the second year onwards and throughout stay in Malaysia under this programmed.

 

All applicants and their dependents (spouse and children) are required to submit a medical report from any private hospital in Malaysia.  

 

Approved participants and dependents (spouse and children) must possess a valid medical insurance policy from any insurance company in Malaysia.

 

Participants under Malaysia My Second Home Program are not allowed to work nor do business while staying in Malaysia. In addition, they should not participate in activities that can be considered as sensitive to the local people and a threat to the security of the country.
